What Are Your Must Have Hotel Amenities?

What are your must-have hotel amenities? Do you like the little soaps and lotions? The traveler’s pack of Q-tips? The shower cap, the sewing kit? What about the in room safe, the continental breakfast, the swimming pool, the fitness center, or spa?

Hotel AmenitiesWhenever we stay at a hotel I always check to see what amenities are available. The one amenity that is a must-have for me is a hair dryer. I don’t know many hotels that don’t have one in each room these days, but I do remember when I used to have to pack my own every trip. It takes up so much room in my luggage that I’m always thrilled to see a hair dryer listed.

At a recent hotel, I couldn’t find the hair dryer anywhere and I didn’t bring my own. I started to panic but then I found it tucked away in a little bag on the top shelf of the closet. Whew!

The hair dryer and an in-room safe are really my only must-have amenities. Others that I enjoy and am always happy to see include those listed above. It’s always fun to get the little soaps and lotions. I love an included continental breakfast and don’t think enough hotels offer one. A swimming pool is always great when we have the kids with us and Dave enjoys the hot tubs and whirlpools. The fitness center is always something I try to get to but oftentimes don’t.

It is fun staying at a hotel that does offer a lot of amenities because even though I am paying for it, the little surprises and nice touches are always memorable.

What about you? What are you must-have hotel amenities?

  16. Stephanie says:

I travel for work pretty often and I always look for a fitness center. It’s hard though – many hotels advertise a “fitness center” but actually have one broken treadmill and a few weights. It’s such a treat when I find a hotel with a decent set up and working equipment.

  17. Ashley S says:

We always enjoy the pool.. breakfast is nice when we have the kids. I’m not too needy as long as it’s super clean I’m happy!

  19. chelesa sims says:

I think if i had a choose in this,I wanted want hairdryer, robe and basic things like shampoo, conditoner, lotion ,soap, toothpaste in a basket.

  20. MD Kennedy says:

Actually, I would prefer that the amenities – particularly soap, shampoo and conditioner – were not given tous in teeny tiny plastic packages that end up in landfill. Put some pumps on the walls! However, I do collect the amenities whenever we travel, and at the end of every year I give them to a local group who packages them in shoeboxes as holiday gifts for women in shelters. I also collect the slippers, all the samples I receive in the mail, etc.

  21. Amanda E. Buccieri says:

My skin is so sensitive, I always have to bring my own amenities!

  22. Evelyn Goettner says:

Yes have to have a blow dryer and an iron!

  23. There must be shampoo & conditioner but I think if you are staying in a hotel they shouldn’t be little travel size ones they should actually have big size for you I mean come on the price that we pay for hotels they could at least throw in some big size shampoo & conditioners that won’t last with 2 people let along your kids ya know. Something that has always bugged me.

  24. Iron and blow dryer are my must haves. And I always appreciate a continental breakfast!

  25. Joni Mason says:

I have to have a coffee pot!!! I really like an indoor pool and hot tub too!

  26. I have to have a minifridge and a continental breakfast. In the recent years I have realized these 2 things can save my family of 5 a fortune. Breakfast for “free” and a place to keep snacks and drinks so I dont have to pay $2 a drink from a vending machine.

  27. saminder gumer says:

my must have amenities are the hair dryer, the iron, and the ability to get some toothpaste because i usually forget mine. i also want a fridge too because i like to keep some stuff in the room just in case i need it.

  28. Free wi-fi! Without that, they get no business from me. Free breakfast, too.

  29. On the top of my list is high speed internet. Next on the list is a pool.

  30. Maria Malaveci says:

I am a pretty simple girl… I just needs coffee. Lots & lots of coffee, and of course Wifi!

  31. Free internet! It’s a must for me especially in the room. I hate when you have to go to the lobby for free internet but it’s better than nothing. I wish more motels had shaving cream in their bathroom things!

  39. Jenny Sims says:

There’s not much I require in-room, just a super clean space to sleep. However, to make a hotel memorable and a place I will recommend to friends and stay at again, it’s great to have breakfast and free wi-fi. I can’t understand why any hotels charge for wi-fi anymore, it’s such an easy thing to make guests really happy!

  44. I love when they give you hand lotion! I’m always washing my hands more and using harsher public restroom soaps when traveling and my hands get so dry. For some reason, that’s one thing I tend to forget to pack.

  45. I’m almost too lazy to pack a big bottle of shampoo, conditioner, body wash…or just buy travel size or travel size containers. I find if I’m only gone 1 or 2 nights I don’t mind using the little shampoo/conditioners in the rooms. I do love the few and far between that has mouth wash. If my daughter is traveling with me then a pool is a must.

  46. Ronie Montgomery says:

My have hotel amenities are full kitchen and towel wash clothes..clean room and tv.

  47. I don’t need much personally, a comfortable pillow ranks high but a bed is usually all I need. Most of the time I bring a hotplate for cooking my morning oats and cereal for the kids. You are right, continental breakfast is nice and so is a swimming pool if the kids are traveling with us.

  70. Trasina McGahey says:

I am 1000000000% with you on the hair dryer! I remember once I actually had my own and it would not run on the outlets for some odd reason. Other than that it’s nice when there is a decently priced restaurant on the premises. That can make life a lot easier!

  71. My comment is not on point. I hope you’re not upset about that, but your post did remind me of this.

Please, if you are not using the little shampoos, lotions, etc. put them in your bag each day so they’ll be replaced. Then box them up and send them to the Ronald McDonald House. So many families wind up there without notice. For them to have soap, shampoo, etc. to use is priceless.

    Thank you!

  72. I too have to have the blow dryer! Love the little shampoos and lotions also!
