Glass Bottom Jet App Let’s You See What You’re Flying Over

Have you ever been in a plane, looked out the window and wondered what you were flying over? I know I have. Nearly every flight I’m on I spend some part of it looking out the window curious about exactly where we are. When we’ve flown with Kora & Logan they always ask a million questions about what’s below asking “What’s that, Mommy?” and “Daddy, where are we now?”

That’s why I was excited recently to learn about the Fly Delta Glass Bottom Jet App for the iPad.

Delta Glass Bottom JetPassengers can use the Interactive Flight Tracker to see exactly where they are and use the Glass Bottom Jet to view photos, landmark information, and social content from their friends.  Here’s a video that shows the app in action. The Interactive Flight Tracker and Glass Bottom Jet features can be seen at 1:25:

Isn’t this amazing? I can’t wait for our next trip on Delta to try this out. In fact, I’m so excited about it I will definitely be checking Delta flight prices first when booking our next trip and keep my fingers crossed that they are within our budget. The app is still new so I haven’t heard many reviews about it yet, but will be keeping my eye out to see what others think.

I was also pleased to see that the app is full of many other features including:

  • Trip inspiration
  • Destination guides
  • Airfare specials
  • Ability to book flights
  • Seat selection
  • Manage profile, transactions, & SkyMiles account
  • Check in for flights up to 24 hours before departure
  • Pay for checked bags
  • Get terminal and gate info
  • Check flight status
  • Purchase trip extras like Wi-Fi and Priority Boarding
  • Find out what’s playing on board
  • Download the SkyMall magazine and destination related music and movies from iTunes

It seems to be an all encompassing app that attempts to make life for Delta passengers easier and more entertaining. As soon as my next flight on Delta is planned I’ll be using this app to manage it and to have fun while I’m flying. I’ll be sure to come back and let you know my thoughts on the Glass Bottom Jet features and whether it’s as good as it sounds.

What about you? Have you ever wondered about what you are flying over? Would this app sway you towards purchasing airfare from Delta over other airlines?

No products or compensation received. I was intrigued when I heard about this app and simply wanted to share.

Wait, um don’t all devices have to be off while flight is in air so signals don’t get scrambled? I usually can’t afford Delta, but if flying cross country I do use them. That would be really cool to know what you were flying over and have a birds eye view…hey maybe in the next 5 years, luggage will cost so much for baggage fees that they will do away with checking it, and they will add a glass bottom to planes!

  2. Austin Baroudi says:

Such an awesome app! If I ever get the courage to get on a plane I’ll definitely have to try it!

  3. This is so cool! I love the idea of this app. It would make flying so much more interactive and fun, especially with kids!

  4. What fun this is! I can’t believe all the cool apps that are being
developed all the time and they just keep getting better and better,
    it seems. ~Katharina

  5. If you like the Delta Glass Bottom Jet feature, try — it works on any connected aircraft on any airline, and on any device with a web browser (incl. but not limited to iPad). You can even track flights with it while you’re on the ground — try it now, you can follow along with a random, currently airborne flight, or select a specific airborne flight.

  6. This would be a great way to fly across the country and keep the kids busy.

  7. Debbie Welchert says:

wow is there an app for everything or what? amazing…

  26. Sounds pretty neat but I like to catch up on my sleep while in a plane, perfect time for a nap in my eyes!

  28. This would be so much fun for flying with the kids. They would love to see what we are flying over.

  29. I have flown back in the day. But, I had nothing like that to fall back on. I don’t know.
Some part of me likes the technology that we have today, and another part of me just
thinks some things should just BE.

  30. OK, now I really need to get an iPad before my family’s trip to Maui this spring! That’s a loooong flight and this app would be really fun during the trip.

  38. Evelyn Goettner says:

This is very cool but no it wouldn’t sway me at all.

  39. I’m intrigued, I’ll have to check that out!

  40. Looks like a fun app. Don’t have a device to use it on.

  41. Great app! Probably wouldn’t influence which airline I fly because I go by price, but it’s an awesome perk.

  42. Cool! Wouldn’t really sway me to book Delta over my beloved Southwest though.

  43. Heather Hayes Panjon says:

The App Is Cool! I Personally Like American Airlines The App Would Not Sway Me To Fly With Delta

  49. I have often wondered what I’m flying over and this would definitely sway me towards purchasing airfare from Delta although I would hope the rate would be competitive with other airlines! :-)

  52. wish I had an ipad so I can use this. flying to florida very soon

  53. Actually, I always seem to fly Delta – they’re always the best flights out of my local airport for some reason. I do think this is pretty cool; especially because we seem to fly too high to really see what’s below or I always end up sitting over a wing

  54. Couldn’t sway me, but I am one of those who always wants a window seat to watch below.

  55. Christina Kelbel says:

That does sound like a very cool app. , can’t wait for the review.

  59. I always wonder what I’m flying over! Such a neat app. I still go for the best prices in airfare, but as long as Delta stays competitive then this would definitely sway me.

I think it’s awesome! Flying over something without see or knowing is a bit boring!
    Definitely would test it!

  61. Betsy Barnes says:

I always wondered what we were flying over and I would guess. This is a cool app and it would sway me to purchase from Delta :)

  62. I am not sure I would be crazy about this. But then again I am a flyer that prefers to have something to relax me and sleep so the flight seems short ans sweet. It is very interesting though.

  63. Oh, that is so cool! I would’ve loved to use that on my recent trip overseas!

  64. This is cool, My husband would like this.

  65. Betty Baez says:

how very cool, i usually fly delta anyways will be using this the next time i fly

  67. Actually, I always wonder that! lol how cool! We have to fly Delta.. it’s our only choice lol

  68. That’s great! I always check when they have the screens to do so, but most often, they don’t. What a fun app!

  69. Love it!!! I always wonder what I’m over, nice to know there is an app that can answer that! Thanks for sharing.

  70. I have often wondered what we’re flying over. This is the coolest thing ever!! It’s great that you can do all those extra things, too, though the glass-bottom feature would be worth it alone.
We usually fly either Southwest or Delta, so I hope we’ll get to try it out.

  71. I’m terrified of flying, so I don’t want to know whats under me! But it looks like a really fun app to keep the kids entertained while in a plane.

  72. I used some type of app on one of my last flights that showed where we were. I like the idea of the glass bottom jet though because I am always interested what I am flying over too!

  73. First reading your post title I just about had a heart attack!! I was thinking it was a glass bottomed jet. The app does sound fabulous. I haven’t flown for a while and would love the chance to use all those features in one app. I know my husband is an avid flight tracker and would love this, too.

  74. That is pretty fun! Definitely something to keep yourself or maybe even the kids entertained while flying.

  75. Well you learn something new every day, don’t you? I’m a Delta Platinum Medallion member having flown over 90K miles last year and this is the first I’ve heard of this app too. Thanks so much for sharing!

  76. It is definitely a cool app! I don’t know that it would sway me to fly Delta, though, especially because they seem to be more expensive than the other airlines I typically fly.

  77. I have Delta’s regular app but not this one, but I’ll be honest. It wouldn’t have the tiniest bit of an influence on which airline I flew. Only price and schedule matter there for me.

  78. Oh wow! This is great for in-flight entertainment. Thanks!

  79. The app wouldn’t sway me to buy an airline ticket but I do think it is neat.

  80. Looks like a really fun app! It’s amazing what the come up with nowadays.
