Do You Exercise When You Travel?

HammockWhenever I travel, I always pack workout clothes. Sometimes multiple sets and shoes too. I even go so far as checking out the fitness facilities at wherever I arrive. But do I ever actually workout? Nope.

Well, that’s not entirely true. When we went to Cancun about 5 years ago, I actually did use the resort gym 3 or 4 times. That’s been about it. When we went to Disney in April, Dave and I packed clothes to go for runs in the morning.

We didn’t run once.

We are usually pretty active on our vacations so I always try to justify my lack of exercising as being made up for in all of our walking or playing in the water. So I guess that counts a little.

I will probably still continue to pack workout clothes every trip hoping that one of these times I’ll actually use them. It’s a great idea and I really do want to get into it. I just have to find the motivation and stop sleeping in so much!

    I will be traveling next month to my sister and am planning on still running. I just started running 2 months ago with the Couch to 5K program and now run 3.45 miles in 28minutes. Prior to this I just was active and played sports, but didnt work out. I now the heat won’t bother me as I currently run outdoors in South Florida, it will be just trying to find a route and finding my way home to her house

  5. We don’t work out, because we’re typically doing a lot of walking anyway.

    I’m the same way. I always pack workout gear. Sometimes even dvds and resistance bands and I never use them. Never.

    No, I don’t work out when I travel. I try and look it as treating myself for being “mostly” good the rest of the time.

  8. Not all the time. Although alot of our trips are for marathons or half marathons so that is our workout. We are going on a cruise in the fall with the kids and I plan on exercising so I only gain 5 pounds instead of 10!

  9. I never do! The idea just has never appealed to me.

    I might do a couple sit ups and I always seem to do a ton of walking but nothing more. I admire you for working out on vacation! Also, that picture looks so comfortable and peaceful.

    I don’t do much working out when I travel. I know that I should but I get carried away with everything else.

    I do workout when I travel! Depending upon where I go I may bring my yoga mat to do some pilates (I have a great app on my iPod for that – OTG Pilates). And I always get exercise by walking around outside. I only used the hotel gyms when I travelled for business, and thank goodness those days ar elong gone!

    I actually do work out when I travel as much as possible. My husband likes to relax more than me so I get up early and hit the gym if I can. My favorite vacation to work out is a cruise – the fitness centers are generally right at the front of the ship so I can watch the waves while exercise and not feel guilty for eating dessert.

    I have worked out in the past when go to visit a family member, but when I really vacation and like to treat myself to full relaxation, so long as I keep my eating fairy clean,
    You may not have worked out, but at least you had good I tensions

    i try to workout when i travel, but it depends on what i am traveling for. if it is for work i usually do it more than when i travel with the family for fun.

  21. Lots of walking (which does count). I’m a swimmer so I always take my suit and can usually find time to get some swimming in.

  22. This is so funny. We do the same thing. I know last time we went to Maui we didn’t work out once. But we did use or tennis shoes for a lot of walking.

    I don’t work out when we travel. We do a lot of walking so I guess in my head I count it as a workout :)

  24. I don’t usually workout when I travel. I am so tired from all of the activities and just want to rest during me free time.

    the way I travel is a workout – we generally come home needing a vacation after our trip to catch up on rest LOL – the way I see it, if we spend so much money going somewhere I went to see everything and do everything possible :)

    Heck no!! ~But I do tend to think I get a bit of exercise when we’re on vacation because I’m swimming, rolling, climbing, etc.

  28. I always plan on it but never do. I utilize hotels’ pools alot so I guess it can be called a workout?

  35. I always work out when I travel. I try to get a hotel with a fitness room; or I go for a run outside in the morning.

  37. I usually do some sort of workout, but is usually conducive to the area I’m at. For example, when I go to the Maryand shore, I bring my bike and I ride up and down the coast- it’s a 16 mile ride with beautiful scenery so it doesn’t even seem like working out.

    I bring workout DVDs, my iPod, and sneakers when I travel. I take long walks and use the DVDs, but never make it to the resort gym.

  42. The only time I’ve worked out at hotel’s fitness facilities is when I’ve been on a business trip and there’s been down time. But when we’re on vacation I get my exercise in by walking, swimming, biking, etc.

  45. We too check out the workout facilities at the hotels/condos we stay. With all the vacation food we do our best to get in some treadmill time & lift some weights. It doesn’t always happen, but it won’t happen if you don’t pack your workout clothes!

    Gosh, I don’t work out when I’m not traveling as I should be. I will go in spurts where I start walking daily but then stop again :-(

    I don’t workout when I travel, I don’t seem to have the time or energy with all the other things packed into my schedule.

    I try really hard to stick with my workout when we travel, however, I find it easy to slack off while on vacation!
