It’s the middle July, and that can only mean one thing to my hometown of Port Huron, Michigan. It is time for the Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinaw sailboat race!
From Thursday until Saturday the town will rollout the carpet for close to 300 sailboats, their crews, and the an 100,000 fans who throng to party.
If looking at boats is not your thing there are many other activities that should appeal to you. There will be several stages set up and on one Josh Gracin of American Idol will be one of many performers. Where else in the country can you go to a carnival while just being a stones throw away from awe inspiring sailboats and freighters from all over the world?
On Saturday morning the race starts as the sailboats pass through the Black River into the St Clair River to head into Lake Huron to begin their competition.
The Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Sailboat Race sets sail on Saturday, July 14th in Port Huron just north of the Blue Water Bridge. This will be the 88th year of the event. You can track the race by visiting the Bell’s Beer Bayview Mackinac Sailboat Race site.
